Word farms of the web . You know that this has become a real problem when you start getting offers for buying your websites , even without listing them for sale. Most human visitors recognise good content which is useful , search engine bots only check if they are “keyword rich” .
The current lot of search engines are extremely ineffective in recognising good content / useful sites. The sites I have spent the most time and effort writing content for are deindexed , including this one. Maybe something better will come up soon.
Search engines and web content
Domain name theft
Web address theft is an everyday event . Some people spend a lot of money on valuable domain names and developing a single website, but the better your domain name or website, the more problems you are likely to face. If your site gets a lot of traffic, people will try to get it removed from search engines and it happens regularly. I still see a lot of “105″ in my search terms, I think it is code to get websites dropped from search engines.
It is better to buy a large number of not so valuable domain names.Though the renewal fees will be higher, few will waste their time stealing the domain names, which can only be sold for a few dollars more than their registration fee.
The problem with Search Engines
Link or Content – Which is the boss? Today if you have a new website with great content it is impossible to rank unless you have links from an “authority” site. So most of the websites today are created by hiring writers to create “keyword ” rich articles, few really interesting websites rank well for many of the subjects I am interested in.
The current search engines rank “keyword rich” articles well and old websites well. For example if you search for any India related term , the first 10 search results will be the archived news of sites of major newspapers in India and rediff, which have been online for a long time. Almost all the newspapers get their news from the same press agencies, PTI / Reuters /AP or the same press release by a company’s PR agency. The search results will have the same text, only a different site design . So if you want to compile or compare information from different sources, search engines are not very useful.
Why good content websites are penalised by Google
How A Third Party Can Remove Your Site From Google SERPsÂ
Till October last year, I was getting a lot of traffic for my websites from Google, since then the traffic from Google has almost disappeared. Visitors to my websites who have found them useful, often post a link to them on forums and message boards, so I was wondering what was wrong.Â
I had specifically asked whether it was possible for a third party to get your site removed on Webmasterworld but a Google Representative said that it was almost impossible for a third party to remove a website. Now my worst fears have been confirmed, some one has been systematically removing all my websites from Google’s index.
I often check my sites AWstats and I know that there are some people tracking many of my websites (may be just to see how effective they have been in getting my websites removed). I suppose they have spent a lot of time getting my websites removed from Search Engines, they have nothing better to do. This website has also been removed from Google’s index, though I never break any rules. Â
I see this happening all the time this year, you develop a good content website, it ranks in Search engines. Your competitors who fill their websites with keyword rich junk, get your site removed from the search engine and you wonder what is wrong. SEO is a complete waste of time for Google. Â
Search engines are manipulated so easily to give junk results, in a few years some one will definitely develop a better way to find useful information on the internet. Â
End of Google PR?
End of Google PR - a lot of my established websites started showing Page Rank 0 (”Google’s measure of the importance of the website”) in the April 2007 PR update, though I had never sold a text link till then. During the August 2007 update, a few more websites have also started showing PR0 . It is time to consider other advertising options.
